Past Loves

Candy
1968-1982

She was a very loyal and faithful dog. She was a member of our family before I was. She took care of me: watching after me to make sure I didn't get hurt, guarding me against potential enemies (and potential friends, unfortunately, as she had a hard time distinguising between real violence and friendly play), and giving me unconditional love. She was an important part of our family.

Shannon
1982-1994

She was the love of my life. At first, a simple replacement for Candy because my heart was so empty. But, she became my all and all. The sweetest dog on this planet. Known for miles around. If I walked down the street, the question would be asked: Are you Shannon's owner? Not really. Shannon owned me. She had me wrapped around her finger. She was beautiful in every sense of the word. She welcomed all with wonderful affection. Okay, maybe *too* much affection sometimes. She was special. Blind by the time she was 5 from glaucoma and arthritis in her hips from hip dyplasia. She was a puppy mill dog. A pet shop dog. But, we were brought together for a reason. I gave her life and love and laughter. She gave me the experience of unconditional love. I was taught patience, tolerance and learning to love no matter what. We were together nearly 12 years. Definitely not long enough. But, considering she wasn't meant to live past 1 year, I thank the forces that be for the 11 additional years I had with her. Every one of them was filled with indescribable joy.

Spaz
1980 - 1998

She was the first kitty cat I ever got to love. A very sweet and affectionate cat. She had a special bond with my dog, Shannon, just as I did. When Shannon passed away, Spazee and I then turned to each other. The interesting thing about the pictures I chose is that Shannon is looking at Spazee who is sitting on the mailbox. Yes, they were taken the same day. Please note the look of utter love in Shannon's eyes. Spazee kept me company in my apartment for some of my adjustment time. She was good company, even if she did drive me crazy. But, since she'd only ever been outside in her territory, I took her back home. She loved me, but she wanted to go back to what she was used to. Unfortunately, she was hit by a car and killed about a year after I took her back. Sorry, Spazee.
